Who are we?

Established in 1998, Sidreh’s mission is to support Arab-Bedouin women as they pursue the full realization of their rights, and those of their community and culture. Sidreh’s projects improve the social-economic situation of Bedouin women, while preserving Bedouin identity, culture and heritage.

Why do we need funding?

About 100,000 Bedouin live in 46 rural villages in the Naqab/Negev which are not recognized by the government. Households are denied infrastructure and basic services, including employment opportunities. Poverty is widespread and Bedouin girls and women are most affected by this dire situation.

The current war has led to food shortages and increased caregiving demands on women. Moreover, anxiety is high among the local population because there are no bomb shelters to offer protection from rocket fire.

Sidreh reaches out to women in the most vulnerable households in the unrecognized villages. We are distinguished by our long-term work with women of all ages, our professional assessment of each situation, and our extensive communication with women to ensure that the assistance they most need arrives in a timely manner.

What will the donations be used for?

Our current campaign supports 5 programs:
  •  Humanitarian Parcel Distribution: Direct support of basic foods and medicines to needy families who have difficulty accessing resources and who are suffering from deteriorating economic conditions.

  •  Emergency Supplies Room: Designated rooms in unrecognized villages help ensure immediate and local access to life-saving supplies in emergency situations. This is especially important for women who face difficulty in accessing services outside their village. Supply rooms are run by Bedouin women for Bedouin women.

  •  Sustainable Agriculture Project : Sidreh has expanded its investment in developing agriculture in unrecognized villages to help improve food security. We offer training and equipment so that families can produce their own fruits and vegetables, improving their health and their finances.

  • Psychological Support Program: Helping women and children improve their mental health during emergency periods. Workshops offer tools on coping with anxiety and building resilience.

  • Lakiya Weaving Initiative : Sidreh’s flagship textile project and the livelihoods of the Bedouin weavers are under threat due to the lack of tourism resulting from the war. To get through this period, the project needs urgent support to avoid closure.
